Stephen King's "On Writing" is the clearest, friendliest book on writing I've ever read. King stuffs the pages with valuable advice, techniques and makes it all look easy.

Bob McKee's "Story" is a Master's Degree in understanding Story. It claims to be a screenwriting book, but writers of any story medium will benefit.

William Goldman's "Adventures in the Screen Trade" and "Which Lie Did I Tell?" are fun to read, give some great dish on the screenwriting industry, and squeeze in some great advice on writing and surviving in Hollywood. One of the few non-fiction books I read just for fun again and again. If you don't know, he wrote Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" "Princes Bride" and a lot of other movies and novels.
